Country Trader, Waterloo.
It was billed as an “at home” style dinner, but if Insider’s home looked anything like the showroom of antique importer The Country Trader, there’s no way we would have gone out on a wintry Tuesday night.
But 100 Sydneysiders were lured into the spectacularly decadent domain of Geoffrey Clark to help celebrate this stylemeister’s 25 years in business.
Hosts on each of the 12 tables of eight included Skye Leckie, Simon Johnson, Susan Rothwell, Roslyn Oxley, David Clark with Catherine Martin, Glen Marie-Frost, Louise McBride, Blainey North, Clark himself, Dominique Ogilvy, Clare Paspaley, and Leo Schofield, who also donned aprons to help serve up a hearty autumn feast of Beef Wellintgton and porcini mushrooms soup by chef John Wilson.
Guests quaffed Bollinger and Henschke wines served in rare crystal glasses while a 200 piece antique Limoges dinner service took pride of place among the torcheres, windlamps and exotic centrepieces designed by floral artist Saskia Havekes.
